F.13  ROUTE CANCELLATION

Policy:

The Red River Valley School Division Board of Trustees believes in the importance of safety on school buses, which includes the right of a bus driver to cancel his/her route if necessary.

Protocol:

Inclement weather resulting in unsafe driving conditions may not affect the entire geographic area of the school division.  As such, the school and/or division may not be closed by the Superintendent & CEO and the decision to cancel a specific route may rest with the driver.

The driver will receive regular pay for routes that are canceled under this policy.

In any other circumstance, bus drivers must first obtain approval of the Transportation Supervisor to cancel their route.

Procedure:

It will be the driver’s responsibility to inform the affected schools and parents.

The driver must also notify:

  • The Sanford Bus Garage or St. Pierre-Jolys Bus Garage, depending on the location of the run.
  • The Transportation Department at the Administration Office in Morris.
Should a route need to be cancelled or delayed after initially starting, every effort shall be made to contact parents of each student

Radio Base Stations located at the bus garages and the division office will assist in any communication necessary for the arrangements to safely accommodate students.
