H.11 FIRST AID TRAINING
Policy:
The Red River Valley School Division Board of Trustees believes that adequate numbers of staff members must be trained in First Aid and CPR.
Protocol:
The numbers of personnel trained in First Aid and CPR will comply with all provincial regulations at a minimum.
Responsibility for compliance will be as follows:
- For Schools, it will be the responsibility of the School Administrator.
- For Bus Garages, it will be the responsibility of the Transportation Supervisor.
- For the Administration Office, it will be the responsibility of the Office Manager.
- For Bus Drivers, it will be the responsibility of the Transportation Supervisor.
Procedure:
The number of First Aiders required is based on workplace distance from a medical facility. By this definition, all RRVSD buildings fall until the definition of “Close Workplace” (less than 30 minutes to a medical facility).
In a Close Workplace, First Aid Requirements are as follows:
Number of workers per shift |
Low Hazard Work |
Other work |
|

Most sites in The Red River Valley School Division fall in the Low Hazard Work category and no site would have over 200 workers at all time. (Note that workers include all RRVSD employees and students working in Science Labs, Industrial Arts classes, Technical Vocational Classes and Home Ec Classes.)
