I.25 EARLY IDENTIFICATION
Policy:
The Red River Valley Board of Trustees believes that students with exceptional learning needs should be identified as early as possible in their education.
Protocol
The use of classroom based assessment is critical to the early identification of exceptional learning needs.
The school division shall ensure that a student is not denied educational programming pending
· The conduct of any assessment, or
· The preparation of an IEP
Procedure
Information required for planning and implementing a student’s educational programming upon school entry will be gathered using various methods, including but not limited to:
· Classroom based assessments
· Specialized assessments
· Transition protocols on Guidelines for Early Childhood Transitions to School,
· Guidelines for School Registration for Students in care of Child Welfare Agencies.
· Information from parents, teachers, clinicians, outside agencies, preschool service providers
· Pupil files
· Grade 3 assessment
· Preschool screening (if available)
· Kindergarten registration
· Classroom reviews
· KIDS program (Kindergarten Instruction Developing Strengths)
· Strong Beginnings
