J.5 FIREARMS AND OTHER DANGEROUS ITEMS
Policy:
The Red River Valley School Division Board of Trustees believes in a school environment free from the presence of firearms and other dangerous items.
Protocol:
All firearms and other dangerous items which may be used to harm others are prohibited on all school property and at all school functions and while travelling to and from school unless approved by School Administration for specified purposes.
Procedure:
Students who are in possession of prohibited weapons/items (guns, bombs, ammunition, etc.) on school properties or at school related activities shall be:
- suspended immediately from school by the School Administrator or his designate.
- reported to the RCMP immediately.
Students who are in possession of prohibited weapons/items (knives, flammable substances, etc.) may be:
- suspended by the School Administrator.
- reported to the RCMP.
All incidents shall be investigated by the School Administrator and communicated to the Superintendent & CEO.
Students may be suspended from 1 day to 3 weeks. In cases of a severe nature, the Administrator will consult with the Superintendent & CEO as to what course of action to follow. This action may vary from further suspensions with counseling to a recommendation to the Board of Trustees for expulsion.
